2017 By-Election

Following the resignation of Mayor Yule and Adrienne Pierce on 28 August 2017 a by-election for the Mayor of Hastings District Council, and one ward councillor for Hastings Havelock North Ward will be held to fill the extraordinary vacancies on Friday 24 November 2017. The timetable below sets out the key dates leading up to the by-election.

Candidate information

If anyone is interested in standing for the Council, the candidate information booklet is available to download here. A candidate information evening will be held on Monday 4 September 2017 at 6pm in the Hastings District Council Chamber. If you are interested in finding out more about becoming a Mayor or a local councillor and the election process - please come along. 

Nomination forms

The nomination forms can also be downloaded below or are available from Hastings District Council offices. 

Nominations for the vacancies open on Thursday 31 August and close at 12pm on Thursday 28 September.

Residential Electors

To be a residential elector, you need to be on the parliamentary roll.  This will automatically enroll you for the council elections and the district health board election at the address where you live.

Non-Residential Ratepayer Electors

A ratepayer who is not a resident of Hastings District but who pays rates on a property there, may be entitled to enrol on the non-resident ratepayer roll.  A company, business or society which is a separate legal entity may also nominate an elector to vote on its behalf, provided that elector resides outside Hastings District.
