Interloan

Borrow from other New Zealand libraries

If we do not hold items in Hastings District or Napier City Libraries, we can try to obtain them for you from other libraries on Interloan.

What is Interloan? Interloan is a request service operating among New Zealand libraries.

Use it for items not held in Hastings or Napier libraries.  We send the request to other libraries on your behalf.

What can I make an  Interloan request? Books, copies of journal/magazine articles, music scores, some car manuals, theses.

Most libraries will not lend audio-visual material such as videos, however:
- Some music CDs (mainly classical) may be Interloaned.
- A very limited range of videos are available.
Please talk to the Interloans Librarian before making these requests.

Subject Requests can be made if you do not know of any specific material.

How do I request an item on Interloan? Come to the library and fill out an Interloan form.
You will need:
  - Your  library card
  -  Information such as title, author, periodical date of item.

Phone requests also accepted.  Please ring Hastings Central Library and ask for the Interloans Librarian.

Please note you must be a member of the Hastings District Libraries to use the Interloans service.

How much does it cost? $5.00 per request, payable at collection of item. This is non-refundable.

May I do my own searching? You are welcome to search other catalogues.
  NZ Libraries Online
  NZ  Public Libraries

  Metronet Public Libraries NZ.

You may search the Te Puna National Bibliographic Database in Hastings Central Library.

If you have located an item, we do not necessarily obtain it from that particular library. Some libraries charge us to supply loans. We have reciprocal no charge agreements with other libraries.

If you do your own searching, the $4.00 Interloan fee is still payable on making each Interloan request.  This is not a search fee but goes towards the cost of processing the request and postage.

How will I know when the item is available? You will receive a notice in the mail when the item is available for you to collect from Hastings, Havelock North or Flaxmere Libraries. Come in with your library card to have your request issued.

How long will it take? We will do our utmost to get the item to you as soon as possible.  It is difficult to estimate a date as this is depends on the availability of the item at holding libraries in New Zealand.

How long may I keep the item? The supplying library will provide a date for return.
Can the item be renewed? Please contact the Interloans librarian in Hastings Library before the due date to renew interloans.
