Privacy Statement
The Privacy Act 1993 seeks to provide better protection for individual privacy in relation to the collection, use, access, correction and disclosure of personal information held by any public and private sector "agency" - this includes the Hastings District Council.
Personal information may be collected only for a lawful purpose connected with a function or activity of the Council and only if necessary for that purpose. Such information must, as a general rule, be collected directly from the individual concerned and that person must be told why the information is needed.
Enquiries about or formal requests for information in terms of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, or the Privacy Act 1993 should be made in writing to:

The Privacy Act sets out 12 information privacy principles dealing with the collection, holding, use and disclosure of personal information, and the assigning of unique identifiers. The principles also give you a right to access information about yourself and to ask for it to be corrected.
The Privacy Act applies to the Hastings District Council in its role as an agency. In compliance with The Privacy Act, the Hastings District Council holds certain information about ratepayers and residents of the district. This information is required for lawful purposes used in the functioning of the Hastings District Council and this information is sourced in accordance with Principle 2 of The Privacy Act.
Access Request
You may make a request to the Council either orally or in writing, for access to personal information held by Hastings District Council. The Council must make a decision on your request and notify you of the decision as soon as practicable - and in any case not later than 20 working days after receiving your request. Hastings District Council may, in certain circumstances, extend the time limit by notice to you.
