Welcome

Active Hawke's Bay is about getting Hawke's Bay residents up and moving, particularly walking and cycling.

If you are interested in learning more about the project, or in assisting by perhaps leading walking or cycling groups, then please get in contact with Emma Walsh (emmajw@hdc.govt.nz or 878 0500).

SPARC was formed in February 2002 following the merger of the Hillary Commission, the New Zealand Sports Foundation and the policy arm of the Office of Tourism and Sport.

SPARC’s Active Communities investment is aimed at increasing participation in physical activity, at a local and regional level by investing in territorial authorities.

Through such strategic partnerships SPARC is pursuing its mission of being the most active nation by 2006.

This can only be achieved through collaboration with territorial authorities, other stakeholders and central government. SPARC supports innovative ideas that provide people with opportunities to get active.

Wanted: Unwanted bicycles

THE RECYCLE PROJECT provides surplus and pre-loved bicycles to selected intermediate-aged children who might otherwise not have access to a bicycle for recreation and transport.

Donated bicycles will be safety checked and if suitable, repaired by a professional bike mechanic.

Selected children on ACTIVE FAMILIES programmes and other programmes will be provided safety instruction when the bicycle and new cycle helmet are handed over.

THE RECYCLE PROJECT is run by BIKE HAWKE’S BAY in association with SPORT HAWKE’S BAY and funded by ACTIVE HAWKE’S BAY.

The target is 50 bicycles to new homes in the next 6 weeks (February - March 2008).

If you have a bicycle to donate, please phone or text Ivar Hopman, Cycling Development Officer, BIKE HAWKE’S BAY 021451588
or SPORT HAWKE’S BAY  06 845 9333.

More people cycling, more safely, more often
