Applying for positions at HDC
Vacancies within the Hastings District Council are advertised in the local paper Hawke's Bay Today and this website.
When you apply for a job at the Hastings District Council, you will increase your chances of being short-listed for a position by:
- Ensuring you have read and understood the Position Description
- Know what tasks you would be expected to do
- Know what sort of behaviour would be expected of you
- Know who you would report to
- Know what qualifications (if any) are required
- Know what knowledge and experience you would be expected to bring to the job
- Ensuring that you address the Key Result Areas in the Position Description within your application, i.e. advise the Council the experience and expertise you have, that will enable you to achieve the Key Result Areas of the job
Presentation of your application
The Council doesn't expect applicants to present their application in expensive fancy folders or covers. The content in the CV is more important to us than the look of the cover or folder it comes in.
Applications by post versus email
The Council is happy to receive applications by email or through the standard post, whatever is easier for the applicant. We can accept CVs in the following electronic formats: .doc, .rtf, .pdf; Please do not send other formats.
The Recruitment and Selection Process
Step 1: Vacancy advertised
Step 2: Applications received
Step 3: Applicants advised that their application has been received
Step 4: Applications considered by the appointing manager - applications suitable for an interview are contacted and invited to attend an interview
Step 5: Shortlisted applications interviewed - generally by a panel of people including the appointing manager, the supervisor/team leader and a person from the Human Resources group. As part of the selection process applicants may also be required to complete a work sample (a piece of work that they would be likely to encounter in the job)
Step 6: The best applicant for the job is chosen and offered the position. All unsuccessful applicants are notified
