Havelock North Water Contamination
Community Health Assistance Fund

In June 2017 Hawke’s Bay Regional Council (HBRC) and Hastings District Council (HDC) agreed to establish a fund to provide assistance to those who have had or continue to have a long-term illness caused by the Havelock North water contamination in August 2016.

In partnership, HDC and HBRC agreed to each contribute $100,000 towards the Fund.

The Community Health Assistance Fund is for people who have suffered symptoms consistent with campylobacter (caused by the Havelock North water event of August 2016) and who have continued to suffer a recognised long-term illness. The Fund is intended to provide a one-off contribution towards an applicant’s financial expenditure incurred as a result of the long-term illness. Long-term is defined as six months or longer (in consultation with medical professionals and MSD).

The Fund is open for applications from Friday 11 August – Friday 22 September.
