The Hastings Budget Advisory Service Inc. was set up to help people in the Hastings District when they are facing financial difficulty and when they need knowledge and assistance for payments.
The Budget Advisory Service provides a confidential service, aimed at helping people find security through the development of money management skills.
The Advisory Service can help you whether you are in debt, want to learn how to manage household money or if you need help in setting and attaining financial and family goals.
Our friendly staff are caring and will take the time to really listen to you, whether you just want to talk, or need help with a major problem.
Our priority is to draw up a household budget designed especially
for your particular needs. Our aim is to help you find security
in handling your own financial affairs through the development
of good money management skills.
We will work alongside you for as long as necessary, in your
own home if you prefer, offering guidance, support and encouragement
to help overcome a variety of problems including:
- Household money management
- Court documents and legal procedures for debt recovery
- Debts
- Repossessions
- Fines payments
- Mortgage, rates and rent arrears and
- Other immediate or long term difficulties involving money
All our volunteer advisers are trained and certificated to the New Zealand Federation of Family Budgeting Services Inc. standard in the specialised field of household money management and debt repayment. Some have professional accountancy qualifications or banking and business experience also. All have undergone training in listening and communication skills.

- Free, confidential, non-judgemental specialist advice
- Assistance to plan tailor-made personal or household budgets so you can live within an income
- Arrangement of banking and recording systems
- Negotiation and advocacy
- Help to reach agreements with creditors
- Community budgeting education
