Camberley Resident Population
Within the Camberley area, the usually resident population count for Census night, 6 March 2001 was 1,965. This is 6% less than the usually resident population counted during the previous census in 1996.
Twenty seven percent of the people living in the area are under 15 years of age and 43,9% has classified themselves as Maori, according to Statistics New Zealand.
This graph indicates the population in the area has been
fairly stable over the last decade. This has two implications:
• There has not been any growth in the area, attracting
new residents
• People are not leaving the area and settling elsewhere.
A popular impression of Camberley is that it is a transient community. People do not move out of the area as often as they move house within the area. This notion was confirmed with the HNZ tenancy manager in the area.
