So what exactly is a community, and why do we need community plans for them?

A community is based around a geographical location, such as a township, where people share a common interest - the area that they live in.

People that live in the same area want the best for their community. For example, they may want to improve playgrounds, want more green space like parks and sports fields, or they may want more lights to improve safety on the streets.

This is where the Hastings District Council comes in. The Council's Community Planner works and consults with communities to develop area-specific plans.

These plans aim to provide a framework for implementation through specific time-orientated objectives to guide the community, community groups, agencies and the Hastings District Council now and in the future.

Council has worked with communities to develop four community plans - Whakatu, Camberley, Clive and Flaxmere.
