District Plan Review
What is the District Plan?
Our district plan sets out the vision for the environment in which we, as Hastings residents want to live.
It does this through rules on land use and subdivision; these rules ensure that the effects of activities on neighbours and the environment are considered.
The district plan can also have an affect on what you do on your property.
Why is the plan being reviewed?
The plan is being reviewed to meet Resource Management Act requirements and importantly, to give you a chance to respond and provide input on the changes happening in our community.
Timeline
The following diagram shows the various steps involved in the process of reviewing the district plan. To the side of the diagram is a timeline for the various stages. This is indicative only. It culminates in the reviewed plan being notified around September 2013.
The particular part of the review process currently being conducted is highlighted on the diagram.
Current status
We've just launched the Reviewed Hastings District Plan for your review and feedback. Submissions close 5pm, Friday 31 May 2013.
Natural Areas discussion document
We are seeking your views on the natural areas of our district. The original plan for the management of these areas was released in 1997 and much has changed since then.
We are looking at the issues that could affect the management of our landscapes, river reserves, lakes, wetlands, our native vegetation and the natural character of our coast.

Next Stage
After the issues have been identified a range of options for addressing the issues will be worked through. These will be discussed with a Reference Group and a preferred option will be arrived at. The group has been established to ensure that a wide range of stakeholders are represented.
Following the identification of the preferred option changes to the district plan will be made and a draft document will be released and informal submissions will be invited.
Maps
The maps shown below identify the three areas upon which the discussion documents have been based. There are some exceptions in each of the areas identified. As an example some of the larger settlements within the rural environment are not included. This includes the settlements of Clive, Whakatu, Bridge Pa, Omahu and Paki Paki. Coastal settlements including Waimarama, Te Awanga and Haumoana are also not included.
While the maps show the district being split into 3 different environments this is only for the section of the review where issues are identified. Beyond this the review will deal with the plan as a whole.
