Engineering Code of Practice Review

Hastings District Council has been performing a review of the ‘Engineering Code of Practice 1997’ (‘ECOP’) to align with current construction standards and best practice.

The draft review of the Engineering Code was initially completed utilising NZS4404:2004 and then upon its release NZS4404:2010, as the base document underlying Hastings District’s local requirements. The code highlights where the local requirements differ from NZS4404:2010.

Additionally, a review of sustainability principles and Council’s strategic directions were undertaken to develop a Best Practice Design Guide to complement the revised ECOP, giving developers and subdivision designers a design guide and standard to attaining sustainability and good place context, from initial concepts through to construction.

To fully implement these new documents Council needs to be able to refer to them in the District Plan. Prior to commencing a change to the District Plan, Council is seeking feedback on these new documents and how they are proposed to be referenced in the District Plan.
