Waimarama Coastal Structure Plan
Hastings District Council is developing coastal structure plans for the District's coastal communities. The 20-year plans aim to manage coastal residential expansion, reserves and parks, services - including water, stormwater and wastewater, roads, walkways and cycleways as well as beautification. The Council wants to make sure that we enjoy and use our coastal areas such as Waimarama sustainably. |
Area
covered by the Waimarama Coastal Structure Plan |
To successfully manage this area, the Hastings District Council wanted to first find out what the residents of Waimarama thought was important for the area.
Consultation
Each resident received a newsletter, Roundhere, in November 2003. The newsletter outlined information about particular topics in Waimarama and then asked that all residents come to an open day on Saturday, 6 December 2003 at the Waimarama Hall.
From the open day and direct feedback from the newsletters, the Council received 84 responses. The majoritiy of the Waimarama residents wanted to see vehicle restrictions on the beach, there was a mixed reaction towards a wastewater treatment plant and traffic humps on roads proved popular. Read a summary of the feedback (PDF, 118 KB).
The Council has collaborated the community's feedback and commissioned technical reports (see below), and will produce the Draft Waimarama Coastal Structure Plan (20-year plan) by the end of 2004. The public will then get the opportunity again to have their say on the draft Plan. Watch this space for more information.
Once the Plan has been adopted by the Council, it will be implemented and incoporated into the Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP).

The report will form the basis upon which the Hastings
District and Hawke's Bay Regional councils develop their policies
for the future management of the Hawke's Bay coastal environment.

impacts from the coastal hazards.
Draft
Waimarama Sewage Collection, Treatment and Disposal Study
Hastings District Council engaged GHD to assess the feasibility
of providing a centralised wastewater collection, treatment
and disposal scheme to service the Waimarama Community. This
report outlines the findings of our investigations and provides
recommendations on preferred wastewater schemes.
Geotechnical

This report provides an engineering geological and geotechnical
assessment of the earthquake and slope-stability hazards for
50 hectares of land located immediately to the south and west
of the current settlement of Waimarama.
