We prepare, review, monitor and implement the objectives and policies of the Hastings District Plan prepared under the Resource Management Act 1991.

As well as this, we also provide policy advice on environmental issues and projects to Council, landowners and the public.

Cape Kidnappers
Cape Kidnappers is home to the largest and most accessible mainland gannet colony in the world

We are focused on consulting with groups and individuals within the Hastings district and responding to environmental concerns, and we also have an education role in promoting awareness of environmental issues and values of the district.

We are currently working on implementing the Hastings Coastal Environment Strategy, monitoring the effectiveness of the District Plan, preparing a heritage management strategy, developing a Gambling Venue Policy, reviewing the natural hazards section of the district plan and working on the Biodiversity project.
