Food Safety Training

Training requirements

Hastings District Council's Food Safety Bylaw requires premises to have all staff trained to the appropriate certificate levels.

The individual levels of training are set out in the First Schedule of the Food Safety Bylaw. Please note that NZQA Unit 167 meets the requirements of Level 1 of the Hastings District Council Food Safety Bylaw.

Training providers and programmes

The following training providers and programmes will help you gain the appropriate food safety training needed to have a healthy and successful food business in the Hastings district.

(Please note: training providers on this list are not endorsed by Hastings District Council. Other training providers may also be able to assist in meeting the training requirements.)

Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT)

Certificate in Food Handling (Levels 1 and 2 & 3) and Food Safety Planning (Level 3) provided.

Food Safety for the Hospitality Industry

Certificate in Food Handling is delivered as two four-hour sessions and includes practical experiments, videos, group discussions and lectures from specialist lecturers.

Food Safety Planning is run in one four-hour session and includes lectures, discussion, case studies and a take-home assessable task.

Only Level 1 training provided. This is a programme where learning is done in students' own time, using easy learn study notes.
