Marae Development Fund

Are you involved in a project that maintains and enhances cultural well-being within the marae environment for the benefit of the Hastings District community?

If so, the Hastings District Council is giving you the opportunity to apply for funding for marae projects.

The purpose of the Marae Development Fund is to assist marae preservation maintenance and development.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Fund, the applicant marae will:

  • Be within Hastings District
  • Be a legal entity
  • Present an audited copy of their latest annual accounts
  • Present a copy of the Maori Land Court order confirming the current trustees
  • Present a legal description of the marae land, the Maori Land Court order defining the marae reservation, Maori land block information and a copy of the original Maori Land Plan.

Further requirements

As a general rule, the allocation of any Fundfor marae maintenance will require 50% of the total cost of the project to be met by the applicants. This can include voluntary labour and donated materials, as long as details of an assessed value are provided with the application.

Applicants will be required to include copies of all receipts/quotes for work as supporting documentation for their applications.

Applications must be signed by the chair of the marae trust.

Priorities

Applications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Funding rounds

There will be two funding rounds per annum.

Applications are currently open for the May 2008 funding round.
