| Welcome to the Hastings District in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. The Hawke's Bay Opera House, which proudly boasts a reputation for being one of the best lyric theatres of its type in New Zealand, is currently undergoing a major upgrade of its facilities. The transformation will bring this magnificent spanish mission building, with its unique architecture and history, into a lively venue and tourist attraction, set within a precinct designed for food, wine and theatre lovers. Festivals and events are held throughout the year. A highlight is the annual Blossom Parade held in September where thousands of people from a wide range of cultures take part and a crowd of all ages pack the streets to see them. |

The Hastings District is for nature lovers as well as arts and culture enthusiasts. There are several heritage trails throughout the district, or mountain bike tracks at Te Mata Peak.
The Hastings District is made up of three main centres - Hastings, Flaxmere and Havelock North. These main centres are surround by 38 rural settlements including Clive and Bridge Pa. The whole of the Hastings District covers an area of 5229 square kilometres (2018 square miles) and with a population of 73,400 people, the Hastings District has 1.8% of the population of New Zealand and ranks 14th in size out of the 74 territorial authorities.
Hawke's Bay Anniversary Day is celebrated on 24 October each year.
