This page shows how the HazMobile collection process works when you arrive in your car.
1. Cars welcomed by our volunteers and directions are given as to what tent to go to.
2. When arriving at the relevant tent, stay in the car, pop your boot and volunteers will unload the hazardous waste.
3. A typical HazMobile collection unit – where all the chemicals go.
4. Volunteers unloading some of the 8000 litres of paint collected in 2004.
5. Volunteers unloading oil into igloo (UN approved container which is double-lined and cannot leak). Once the igloo is full, oil is taken away to be refined.
6. Sorted chemicals in a UN approved drum waiting to be sealed, documented and sent to Medichem (in Auckland) where the chemicals are sorted for recycling, destroyed or sent to Belgium for complete destruction.
7. Some of the car batteries and fire extinguishers collected.
8. Some of the gas bottles collected.
9. Volunteers asking motorists questions after they have disposed of their hazardous waste.
10. Happy Volunteers at the end of the weekend!
