Kia ora! As part of our ongoing programme of
improvement, we are asking for your feedback to ensure that Hastings
District Libraries' hours are meeting the needs of our community.
We invite you to use our online survey to
let us know your preferences. Your response should only take less
than a minute and will help us access what changes, if any, we
need to make to library hours.

Winners of Book Sculpture Competition |

Congratulations to Sheryl
Eustace (entry at left) and Glyn Harrison (entry below right),
winners of the New Zealand Book Month Book Sculpture Competition, held by
Flaxmere Library.
They will each receive
$50 worth of art supplies and a bottle of wine. |

The sculptures will be
exhibited at the Flaxmere Library until 10/10/08.
They will move to
Havelock North Library until 24/10/08, then on to Hastings Library until
7/11/08. |

Hastings Festival of Writers 2009 |

Leading New Zealand and Australian writers will be on stage at a variety
of venues and events in the Hastings Festival of Writers from March 20 –
22, 2009.
The
festival is a unique opportunity to join novelists, poets, historians and
biographers for readings, discussions and conversation.

Montana Book Awards |
|
The Montana Book Awards have been announced.
The Montana Medal for Fiction or Poetry went to Charlotte Grimshaw for
Opportunity, and the Montana Medal for Non-fiction went to Janet Hunt
for Wetlands of New Zealand.

To celebrate Montana Poetry Day
Hastings Library held a poetry competition.
Winners this competition>>
Flaxmere Library held a poetry reading cafe style, with public and
staff sharing their poems. This was such a enjoyable occasion that it may
become a regular event.

Language Line |

Hastings District Libraries are now participating in Language Line, along with the Hastings District Council.
Language Line allows clients with little or no
English to ask for a telephone interpreter.

greatly extended by the thousands of journals, magazines,
newspapers and reference works found in our online databases.
Databases bring up-to-date
information and research right to your desktop at home as most
are available online 24/7 from our website. They may also be used in your
library (no charge). More>>

• Hastings Library has a late night on Tuesdays - open
until 8pm?
• On Saturdays the three libraries are open 10am to
4pm?

talking books, art prints (Hastings), toys and
playstation games (Flaxmere).
• Special collections include Maori, Business, Community
Languages, ESOL (English for speakers of other languages).
