Latest update:
The contractor is currently working on the last stretch of large diameter stormwater pipe from Copeland to Wavell.
Kerb and channel work has started from Heretaunga to Outram - currently installing on the south side of Lumsden with work planned to start on the northern side in a fortnight's time.
Overview:
The Lumsden Road work incorporates a new approach to urban design in Hastings, which aims to be both sustainable and provide a more neighbourhood orientated setting. The result will be to create a more park-like environment which is more pedestrian and cyclist-friendly - and where traffic speeds are lower and safer.
The work will be done in 2 phases:
The first phase – underground - includes the installation of a large diameter stormwater pipe along the length of the road and some sewer works (this work is currently underway). From Copeland Rd to Outram water pipes will be upgraded.
The second phase – road reconstruction – will see the contractor working from Heretaunga St to Copeland Rd in stepwise fashion, starting with kerb & channel, then vehicle crossings, footpaths and then completing the road itself.
The works are expected to finish in early July 2010
