A running total of returned papers for the Nelson Park public referendum is available online with records showing 1,307 voting papers have been returned so far (as of noon on Tuesday, 24th October).

The website http://www.electionz.com/elections/hastings/returns.htm has been set up by independent elections service provider Electionz.com Ltd, under contract to by Hastings District Council to process votes cast in the referendum.

The site shows how many voting papers have been returned and what percentage of the total that constitutes.  There are 50,140 people enrolled to vote in the Nelson Park referendum.

Hastings District Council electoral officer Peter Woodroffe said that the online system means Hastings electors can keep a close eye on how many people are participating in the referendum.

“Our objective is to get every single voter in Hastings District to vote in the referendum,” said Mr Woodroffe.

Figures on the website will be updated every week day by 10.30am.
