A Citizenship Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, 5 July 2006 at 7.00pm in the Council Chambers. There will be 31 candidates who will officially become citizens of New Zealand that evening, made up of the following nationalities –

31 candidates from 11 different countries will be participating in the ceremony as follows –

Indian 6
Chinese 1
Samoan 8
British 2
Russian 1
Fijian 1
South African 5
Pakistani 2
Dutch 1
Zimbabwean 3
German 1

Kaumatua, Mr Tiemi (Jim) Whaanga will welcome those present on behalf of tangata whenua.

Entertainment will be provided by “Bobby Little”.

A copy of “Town and Country – The history of Hastings and district” by Matthew Wright will be presented to each family by Mayor Lawrence Yule. The candidates will also receive a Kowhai tree grown at the Hastings District Council’s Nursery, which symbolises “putting down roots”.

Representation from the 7th Wellington (City of Wellington’s Own) and Hawke’s Bay Regiment will attend the Mayor.
