: Civic awards to honour citizens

Twelve people are to receive awards at a ceremony in the Hastings District Council’s chamber on Wednesday (5 April).
They include nine Civic Awards, two youth and a bravery
award. The recipients are:
Mrs Rosina Christina Hughes, for services to education and
youth
Mrs Philippa Sara Yorke, for services to culture and youth
Mrs Ngaire Wilma Shand, for services to the arts and education
Mrs Margaret Jone Cooper for services to the arts and education
Mr David Harington for services to welfare and recreation
Mr Henk Boekestyn for services to welfare
Mrs June Bertha Smith for services to health and welfare
Mrs Joyce Barry for services to the arts and welfare
Mr Michael Philip Winston Kitchin for services to welfare
Te Vivi Tama Daniel – Rotary Youth Award for services
to Arts and Culture and the Community
Sara Judith Avery – Rotary Youth Award for services
to sport
Accident Injury Support Group Hawke’s Bay Incorporated
- Group Award for services to health and welfare
Mayor Lawrence Yule will also announce a bravery award for Hastings police constable Vanessa Vanessa Potter, for her actions in rescuing a fleeing suspect from a river in 2004.
