: Building consent processing time reduced
Good news for people lodging building consent applications in Hastings district – processing times have dropped from 6 to 8 weeks back to less than 20 working days which is a requirement under the Building Act 2004.
Last year Hastings District Council was swamped with applications between August and November which saw processing times escalate.
However between Christmas and the New Year staff were able to make a dent in the backlog and get back on track for 2006, said Community Safety Manager Malcolm Hart.
Site inspections were also back on schedule, being completed in 24 hours compared with up to five days in the latter half of last year.
Meanwhile, more than 130 building consents are sitting with the Council waiting to be collected, some dating back more than nine months.
Despite paying a deposit and having their consents granted, some applicants appeared to be taking their time about collecting and paying for them.
Furthermore, Mr Hart said about 90 other building consents were suspended in various stages of processing awaiting further information from applicants.
