: Council 'Exposed' in public event
13 April
The inner workings of the Hastings District Council will be exposed at the ‘Shaping Our District’ Expo next week.
This is the third Expo the Council has held since 2003, and the events have proved popular with Hastings residents as an opportunity to see where their rates go and how the Council makes its decisions on some of the ‘big issues’.
As part of the Council's Long Term Council Community Plan consultation process, it's also a chance for people to have their say on what they think is important.
"Public feedback is a critical part of the plan process,” says Strategy Manager Lex Verhoeven.
" Council’s first and second Expos far exceeded our expectations with visitor numbers. A typical meeting for the annual plan might have attracted only 10 people in the past, but the EXPO changed all that when over 700 people walked through the doors," he said.
Expanding on last year’s Expo, staff are getting behind the design of their booths.
There will be more than 25 booths
showcasing Council's core functions, major projects
and initiatives, including roads, water services, libraries,
tourism facilities
and many more.
One of the projects expected to generate a lot of interest
is the District Plan change process for Ocean Beach.
Visitors to Expo will be able to see the newly-released charrette designs, alongside three other options the Council will consider and put out for public consultation.
Expo runs from 10am to 4pm, on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 April, at the Hastings Sports Centre in Railway Road.
