: Fire restrictions lifted
28 March
Fire restrictions which have covered the Hastings district over the summer have been lifted as of 5pm, 27 March..
This means the district is now in an open fire season, with no permits required for outdoor fires. However, Deputy Principal Fire officer Paul Hawke warned that common sense was still essential in lighting any fire outdoors.
“We want people to imagine the very worst case scenario when planning a fire, and take measures to be ready if it happens. That means having someone keeping an eye on the fire at all times, and having more than a bucket of water ready if it starts to get out of control.”
