Gardeners encouraged to celebrate 50 years as a city

30 August 2006
The organisers of the Hastings District Festival of Garden Awards are encouraging local gardeners to celebrate 50 years of Hastings as a city by entering their gardens in this year’s Festival.
Hastings District Council and the Landmarks Trust are behind the Festival.
“This is a great opportunity for people to celebrate by showing-off their beautiful gardens. We have such a diverse and rich area to garden in; that’s one of things that makes our district so special”, says Festival co-ordinator, Anthea Bailey.
“The awards are for anyone and everyone. You don’t have to have a perfect garden. We’re looking for gardens which give pleasure, and show off the gardener’s own distinct style.”
There are eleven categories in the Festival of Garden Awards 2006:
Creative Garden : Formal Garden : Small Garden : Landscaped Garden : Outdoor Living Areas : Water Feature : Edible Garden : Best Use of Native Flora : Schools : Industrial/Commercial (small and large) : Best Street
Entries will close on 7th November.
Judges will visit all the gardens in mid November and an Open Garden Day in early December will give the public a chance to visit some of the gardens.
