Last weekend for swimming at Splash Planet

10 March

Splash Planet’s swimming facilities will close this Sunday (12 March) after a successful summer season, Hastings Tourism Manager Stuart Perry said today.

At the height of the season around 1500 patrons visited the water theme park daily. Splash Planet will still be open as normal for all other attractions such as the Fantasyland train, merry-go-round, Toyland, café and mini putt.

Mr Perry said the splash swimming season used to remain open until April, but with cooler water temperatures and patronage figures down to around 150 per day due to the school year beginning, it made economic sense to close the complex a little earlier.

“We’ve had a great season and we hope people have enjoyed themselves,” said Mr Perry.

“Our team have really enjoyed bringing new activities and events to the park this summer and already have their thinking caps on for the ‘06/’07 summer season.”

Mr Perry said while some children might be sad the water park would be closing a little earlier than normal, it all came down to cost saving.

“Pool safety regulations require us to maintain high staffing numbers but lately staff have outnumbered patrons,” he said.

Next season Splash Planet will operate from November to the start of the first school term in February.
