Chief Executive Appointment18 December 2007
Hastings District Council today announced the appointment of Ross McLeod to the role of Chief Executive. Ross McLeod joins Council from his current position as Director of Corporate and Civic Services at Waitakere City Council, a position he has held for seven years.

Civil Defence ready to act

Heavy rain continues to fall in Hastings District with 120 millimetres expected in some areas over the next 24 hours. Mike Maguire, incident controller for Hastings Civil Defence, said the forecast was for more heavy rain, and Civil Defence and other agencies were prepared to act where and when they were needed.

Maraekakaho residents are advised not to use their household water supply after extensive surface flooding affected the area earlier today. Water supplies and portable toilet facilities are being taken into the area to help relieve the situation.

The Hastings District Council is to defend its notification of a plan change to change the status of rural coastal subdivision in the High Court. Proposed Plan Change 38 seeks to change the status of subdivision in the rural coastal environment from being a controlled to a discretionary activity.

Hastings District Council has voted to proceed with investigations into the cost implications and potential value of purchasing land on the Haupouri Flats at Ocean Beach, for a reserve. The vote took place yesterday during a full, public Council meeting.

Even as the indoor fire season begins, Hastings District Council's Rural Fire Officers are warning the district is still in a restricted fire season outdoors.
