Hastings District Council has received a private plan change application for Ocean Beach lodged by Hill Country Corporation. The proposed plan change seeks to develop a village community settlement at the southern end of the beach while protecting the northern end.

Philip McKay, Hastings District Council’s Team Leader Environmental Policy, said there are a number of steps to be completed before the private plan change can be publicly notified.

“We will need to go through what is proposed to make sure we have all the information we need before we can consider processing the plan change. There will be an opportunity for the public to comment once the plan change is publicly notified,” said Mr McKay.

The private plan change states its aim is to provide long-term protection, conservation and management of significant landscape areas, natural areas and areas of cultural value. It proposes a “compact, vibrant community” contained within a specific footprint area at the southern end of Ocean Beach.

It provides for a comprehensive Special Character Zone taking in all of Ocean Beach and made up of residential, rural, rural equestrian, conservation and commercial service sub-zones.

Hastings District Council has 20 working days to request further information from Hill Country Corporation.
