Home : News : NZ Music Month at Hastings Libraries

30 April 2008
New Zealand Music Month will soon be in full swing at your local... library, that is! Local musicians will be taking time to entertain their communities and show their talents in and at their local libraries during May New Zealand Music Month 2008.
Carla Crosbie, Community Liaison and Promotions Coordinator of Hastings District Libraries, said a range of musicians will be playing during May at all three libraries and people can come along and enjoy the music while they browse.
“As a centre of culture we encourage community use of our libraries and welcome the opportunity for members of our communities to share their interests and experiences,” said Ms Crosbie.” This is a great opportunity for people to enjoy and support our local emerging musicians.”
Doug Jones, of D.J. Drum Studios, has students performing in preparation for their Trinity Guildhall music exams. Mr. Jones welcomes this opportunity for his students to show their communities their talents and how hard they have worked.
“People underestimate just what it takes to learn to play instruments like the drums properly and these students are all top class.” said Mr. Jones.
Also performing are some of Mr. Jones’ Summer Music Camp students from Hastings Boys High School and Karamu High School who write their own songs and perform under the name ‘Insane Puppets’.
Library users who issue CD’s during May will go into a draw to win New Zealand Music Month products. A list of musical events is available on the library website www.hastingslibrary.co.nz
Musicians interested in participating in these New Zealand Music Month celebrations should contact their local library.
