Come along to the Earth Hour event at the Hawke's Bay Opera House Plaza, from 7pm on Saturday March 28, 2009 and receive free Ecobulb® light bulbs for your home.
Energy Mad have donated 5,500 Ecobulb® light bulbs to Hastings District Council in support of Earth Hour.
“By switching ALL your light bulbs to Ecobulb® light bulbs you will save up to 16,000 kW hours ($3,200) over the lifetime of the bulbs*”
Energy Mad is working in partnership with local councils to help promote Earth Hour and the Energy Awareness Week following the event by encouraging residents to use efficient lighting once the lights are switched back on.
Energy Mad and the Electricity Commission have donated Ecobulb® light bulbs to 31 participating councils across New Zealand for free distribution during Earth Hour and related events.
"Energy Mad and Earth Hour share a common mission of saving energy and raising awareness of energy use. Switching your light bulbs to Ecobulb® energy savers is a small but significant step anyone can make to help reduce unnecessary energy use and make a difference." Chris Mardon, Managing Director Energy Mad, makers of the Ecobulb® light bulb
The Ecobulb® light bulbs will also be handed out through the Libraries, i-site and in the CBD this Friday lunchtime by the MORE FM vehicle, promoting Saturday nights event.
The entertainment has been confirmed and we are please to announce that local musicians Dave Boston, The Kaweka’s and Kevin Watson will be performing between 7pm and 8.15pm.
Play your part and switch everything off before you leave home. Harvey Norman and TSB are some of the participating businesses in Hastings and will be turning off lights on Saturday to support Earth Hour. Many others are unable to access their switches which control their external lighting but are doing everything they can inside. Countdown is one of these businesses and they are turning off all of their office lights and screens in support of the event.
Schools are doing their bit too. Both Iona College and Hereworth
School are holding a “lights out” event to support Earth Hour.
If you are unable to attend the event you can still take part wherever you may be, by turning off unnecessary lights and appliances such as your microwave.
“Switch off for an hour and see your world in a whole new light.”
