Bag Dispensers Take Care of Business

Monday 23 November 2009

Dogs and their owners can both be relieved when they take a walk in Keirunga Gardens, with free doggy doo bags now available at the Tanner Street entrance.

This type of doggy doo bag dispenser will eventually be placed at all off-lead dog walking areas in the Hastings District.

During the recent dog on-lead bylaw review, Council heard from many dog and non-dog owners alike complaining that popular dog walking areas were being fouled by dog faeces.

Owners are encouraged to bring their own plastic bags from home when exercising their animals, but the easy to-use-dispensers will provide a convenient alternative.

Hastings District Councillor Mandy Kimber welcomed their introduction and noted that similar dispensers in Taranaki have proven popular.

“I think these dispensers are a great idea. When I lived in Taranaki they were very common around parks and also on the iconic New Plymouth walkway.”
