Hastings will welcome 13 new New Zealanders at a citizenship ceremony to be held tonight (Wednesday, September 1), from 6pm in the Assembly Room at the Hawke’s Bay Opera House, Heretaunga Street East, Hastings.
The candidates’ nationalities are as follows:

Samoan 3
Dutch 2
Somali 1
Argentinean 1
Tongan 1
Indonesian 1
Kaumatua Mr Jim Whaanga will welcome those present on behalf of tangata whenua, with entertainment provided by the Hastings Boys High School choir, Dynamic Sounds.
Mayor Lawrence Yule will present each candidate with a kowhai tree grown at the Hastings District Council’s nursery to symbolise “putting down roots”.
