Hastings District Council will present its vision for the future at a Hui a Hapu at the Matahiwi Marae early in November.

The purpose of the Hui is to inform the community on council's 2012/22 Long Term Plan (LTP) process ahead of developing its Draft LTP.

The HazMobile returns to Hawke's Bay next month, giving residents the opportunity to get rid of their hazardous waste.

The collection is a free service which allows householders to safely dispose of hazardous material including oils, chemicals, batteries and solvents.

The service operates like a drive-through - the driver stays in the car, while staff unload the hazardous material and then you drive away. It is recommended that waste items are packed into boxes so they are easy to remove from a vehicle.

Hastings will welcome 17 new New Zealanders at a citizenship ceremony to be held Monday 31 October 2011, from 6 pm in the Hastings District Council Chamber, Lyndon Road, Hastings.

A Kaumatua will welcome those present on behalf of tangata whenua.

Hastings District Council Councillors will present each candidate with a kowhai tree to symbolise 'putting down roots'.

An open day at the Hastings cemetery and crematorium will allow visitors a chance to gain an insight into the inner workings of the facility.

The open day aims to dispel any myths or concerns people may have about the facility and enable relatives and friends to look around the premises in a relaxed and informal way.

My Voice My Choice is a new online channel which represents a bold move by Hastings District Council to make it easier and more convenient for residents to have their say on decisions made in their community.

Council currently uses a range of traditional avenues to communicate with residents on important issues. These include consultation documents, public meetings and inviting written submissions.

Hastings District Council's commitment to providing greenspace in the CBD takes another step forward with the development of plans for a new park.

Councillors have agreed to a draft concept plan for a development which includes a passive park, a children's playground and a skate plaza on 6000 square metres of council owned land bounded by St Aubyn Street, King Street and Avenue Road.

Havelock North is all set to welcome the competitors at the end of one of the country's most gruelling car rallies.

The New Zealand Targa Rally is described as the 'Ultimate Road Race' and starts on Tuesday October 25th when competitors head north to the day's finish in Whangarei.

Flaxmere Waterworld indoor pool reopened this morning (Monday October 10th) at 10am, following the completion of remedial work on the pool's roof structure.

The building was closed two weeks ago as a precautionary measure, to address cracking in the pool's wooden roofing beams.

The Hastings District Council is publicly notifying a resource consent application by Charter Hall to reduce the floor size of four of the stores within the buildings to be built at THE PARK megacentre site in Karamu Road.

Site developer Charter Hall has submitted a resource consent application that requests the floor area of stores in the proposed buildings, be reduced from the required 1000 square metres to between 500 and 670 square metres.
