Hundreds of people packed into the Hawke’s Bay Opera House on Sunday to experience a the tastes and sounds of Thailand.

‘Destination Thailand in Hastings’ featured a selection of Thai culture, arts and crafts, food, music and song. The entertainment also included a Thai wedding ceremony.

The RaboDirect Club Road National Cycling Championships return to Hawke’s Bay roads this week.

The last time the champs were held in Hastings District was in 2010 when they were based at the Matapiro Community Hall at Crownthorpe.

Being a loyal and devoted volunteer will have its reward for a number of people, when they are presented with a Hastings District Council Civic Award.

The 2012 awards will honour seven individuals and one group at a ceremony to be held in the Assembly Room at the Hawke’s Bay Opera House on Monday May 7th at 6pm.

Award nominations were received for people from all walks of life and the winners have been selected by the council’s Civic Pride committee.

The sound, colour and tastes of Thailand will be on show at the Hawke’s Bay Opera House at the end of this month.

‘Destination Thailand in Hastings’ will bring Thai culture, arts and crafts, food, music and song to the Opera House. The event will feature music and dance from the Hawke’s Bay, Auckland and Wellington Thai communities along with a selection of food from the four different regions of Thailand.

The recently released draft joint Waste Management and Minimisation plan (WMMP) includes a number of innovative and exciting ideas on how we could deal with waste in the future.

The plan has been developed by Hastings District and Napier City councils and aims to find ways of delivering consistent waste and recycling services across both cities.

The community will get to give their views on Hastings District Council’s new Long Term Plan (LTP) when the Voice Box travels around the district.
The Voice Box is a retrofitted shipping container where the main features of the 2012/22 LTP and the new joint Waste Management and Minimisation plan will be on display.

Residents are being invited to ‘like’ the council’s Sus’d facebook page and become part of the group which will begin the development of the Omarunui Landfill, Facebook Forest.

Each ‘like’ on the page will allow another native plant to be put in the ground in a part of the landfill which will not be used for rubbish disposal.
