
“It’s the year 2045 – What does Hawke’s Bay look like?
This is the question Napier City Council, Hastings District Council and Hawke’s Bay Regional Council are asking in the first step of the Heretaunga Plains Urban Development Strategy (HPUDS).
A stakeholder reference group, made up of 20 representatives, has met three times and and a hui has been held with local Maori to discuss the assumptions, principals and the community values of the Heretaunga Plains, which were then incorporated into further work.
Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule says thousands of people visited the park last year and with an extremely hot summer forecasted it’s expected this number will grow.
“Over a period of three years we have seen a massive 59% growth in attendance figures and we are really excited about increasing this figure further this year. Splash Planet is New Zealand’s only water theme park and is a key tourism facility within Hawke’s Bay,” Mayor Yule says.
Hawke's Bay residents are getting an opportunity to clear the unwanted domestic hazardous waste out of their cupboards and garages safely and responsibly.
The 2009 HazMobile Collection is being held in Hastings at the Hastings Sports Centre, Railway Road, on Saturday 14 November and in Napier at Eastern Truck and Marine, Austin Street, on Sunday 15 November. Trained staff run the free collection from 10am -2pm on each day.
Hastings District Council and the Hastings Rose Society are hosting the annual Rose Sunday event at Frimley Park on Sunday, November 15.
The popular event attracts families and gardening enthusiasts from around the district.
Visitors can bring a picnic and relaxed on the lawn, while the jazz band plays in the background.

Hastings District Council is bringing together groups with an interest the district’s young people to discuss ways to unlock their potential and address anti-social behavior of at-risk youth.
Around two years ago, Council established the Hastings District Crime Prevention Governance Group, which included representatives from police, the Ministry of Justice, Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga, the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Education, the Department of Internal Affairs, Hawke’s Bay District Health Board, Child Youth and Family and Housing New Zealand.
