Springhill Addiction Centre Move Gets Approval from Hearings Committee

Hawke’s Bay District Health Board has had its application to move the Springhill Addiction Centre from Napier to Hastings approved by the Hastings District Council - subject to conditions.

HBDHB applied to change the use of a former resthome, across the road from Cornwall Park, into a residential alcohol and drug addiction treatment centre as the existing Springhill facility in Morris Street, Napier was no longer fit for this use.

Hastings District Council Supports Great Wine Capital Membership

Hastings District Council voted unanimously to financially support the annual membership to the Great Wine Capital Network.

Hastings, Hawke’s Bay and Christchurch, South Island have been selected as finalist for the internationally recognised title.

Northern Arterial Route still a regional priority despite NZTA Decision

The development of the Northern Arterial Route (NAR) is still likely to go ahead despite a change in funding policy from the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) announced today.

The new policy places greater priority on economic efficiency and nationally significant routes than regional projects.

Fire danger arrives early

Eight fires in the Hastings district over the past three weeks have sparked concern among local fire officials.

Fire restrictions are not normally of concern at this time of the year, but strong winds coupled with fine weather and dry vegetation has proven to be the perfect combination for recent fires which have gotten out of control.

Hawke’s Bay Ready for Great Wine Capital Judge Visit

Hastings, Hawke’s Bay may soon officially take the title many believe it rightfully deserves – as the Great Wine Capital of New Zealand.

Delegates from the Great Wine Capital Network arrive in Hawke’s Bay tonight for a two day visit during which they will judge the region for the prestigious title of New Zealand’s Wine Capital.

Community Forum helps charities raise funds

The forum focusing on fundraising will be held in the Council Chamber at 207 Lyndon Street East on Friday, 4th September from 11am - 1:30pm

More time to pay rates

Hastings ratepayers have been given an extra two weeks to pay their rates bills without penalty, to help them adjust to a new quarterly rates payment scheme.

The new scheme means rates are spread over four instalments per year, instead of six under the previous system. This means each instalment will be larger, so ratepayers are receiving an unusually large rates bill this month.

Planning for the future of the Heretaunga Plains

Details of a regional planning project for urban growth have been released today. The Heretaunga Plains Urban Development Strategy (HPUDS) is a combined effort by the Hastings District Council, Napier City Council and Hawke's Bay Regional Council to plan for urban growth in the years ahead. In the past, Hastings and Napier have planned for such growth independently.

New Dog Laws to Protect Hastings Public

Dog owners will be required to keep their dogs on a lead in public urban areas in Hastings District from December 1, under new rules passed by the Hastings District Council yesterday.

The Dog Control Bylaw 2009 will give more teeth to existing dog control rules, but will also give dog owners a greater selection of off-lead areas where they may let their dog run free legally.

Hastings District Council to Support Public Access to Clifton Camp

Councillors today voted to fund $10,000 per year to the lease of private land for a public road to the Clifton Motor Camp.

Mayor Lawrence Yule has been in negotiations with the Clifton Reserve Society on how to maintain vehicle access after high seas washed away the access road two months ago.
