Art Invitational at Exhibition Centre 24 April 2008 A large sculpture made from found objects has appeared outside the Hawke's Bay Exhibition Centre thanks to local artist Ricks Terstappen and the Creative Hawke's Bay Art Invitational.
'Problem' liquor store to stay 24 April 2008 A Flaxmere company caught three times selling liquor to underage purchasers has had two of its managers liquor certificates suspended by the Liquor Licensing Authority, but the company will be allowed to continue operating a bottle store despite objections from Hastings District Council, Police and Flaxmere community representatives.

Fire restrictions lifted 18 April 2008 Rural Fire authorities have lifted fire restrictions across Hastings District and Napier City following several days of rain this week, though they are still advising caution when lighting fires outdoors.

Omarunui Landfill disposal fees to rise 1 April 2008 Fees at the Omarunui Landfill are set to increase from 1 July 2008. The current charge rate of $44 per tonne (excluding GST) for general municipal waste at the Omarunui Landfill will increase to $48 per tonne (excluding GST). This represents an increase of 9.1%.
MarchTotal Fire Ban reduced 28 March 2008 Napier City Council and Hastings District Council, in conjunction with the NZ Fire Service, has reduced the total fire ban in the district to a restricted fire season. This means a permit will still be required for any fire being lit out in the open, until further notice.
Frances Hodgkins paintings in Hawke's Bay. 27 March 2008 The Hawke's Bay Exhibition Centre will host The Field Collection, a comprehensive collection of the works of Frances Hodgkins (1869-1947). The collection comes to Hastings from the Kapiti Coast where the ashes of Frances Hodgkins now rest.

Total fire ban for Hastings and Napier 28 February 2008 Outdoor fires are to be banned until further notice from 5pm on Friday 29 February, as Hastings and Napier move to a total fire ban. New Zealand Fire Service and Rural Fire Authority Fire Crews are anxiously watching the weather forecast and hoping for a significant amount of rain to help relieve extreme fire conditions on the plains and coastal areas.

Council rejects Ocean Beach plans 22 February 2008 Hastings District Council today voted to prepare a submission on Hill Country Pastoral's Ocean Beach private plan change. The submission will seek to have the plan change rejected outright on the basis it will have significant effects on the environment in excess of those anticipated by the comprehensive Ocean Beach structure plan developed by Council
in May last year.

Total fire ban considered 8 February 2008
Hastings district may face a total fire ban before the end of summer, as weather forecasts promise little significant rain for the area. Rural Fire crews attended two fires yesterday, including one started by an angle grinder throwing sparks into dry grass.
International Cultures Day 8 February 2008 At least seventeen different cultures will be represented at this year's Hawkes Bay International Cultures Day. The event, which is in its tenth year, takes place on Saturday 8 March at Cornwall Park in Hastings.
