The Hastings District and Napier City councils operate the Omarunui Landfill, situated at Omarunui Rd.
The landfill is only open to commercial operators/contractors with a Waste Disposal Licence - it's not open to the public. Members of the public should take their waste to one of the local Refuse Transfer Stations.
Landfill hours are Monday to Friday 8am - 4.30pm. Last entry time is 4.00 pm. Users of the Landfill must allow enough time to ensure they vacate the site before closing time (unless by prior arrangement).
Most of the waste that comes to the landfill is from the Napier city and Hastings district refuse transfer stations.
Omarunui Landfill is committed to providing an environmentally responsible waste disposal site for Napier City and Hastings District which safely contains all waste on-site, complies with legal requirements and seeks to continually improve environmental performance.
The disposal costs for all commercial/industrial trucks and trailer units can be found on the Omarunui Landfill Charges page.
Additional penalty charges may be charged in the following situations at the discretion of the Landfill Manager;
- Late delivery of wastes (after 4.00pm or outside of normal operating hours)
- Non-compliance with direction given for delivery of wastes, such as putrecible wastes and special wastes
- Insecure loads - the Kiosk Operator, Landfill Supervisor or Landfill Manager may impose a penalty charge of $50.00 for continued insecure loads
