Dog Control Policy

The Dog Control Policy reflects
the way the Hastings District Council enforces dog registration fees, operates the pound and
the way the Animal Control team deal with other dog
control issues.
The purpose of the policy is to develop a practical framework for the care and control of dogs throughout the Hastings District while minimising any danger, distress and nuisance to the community generally.
The policy aims to integrate control measures passed through the Dog Control Act 1996, the Dog Control Amendment Act 2003 and Council’s Dog Control Bylaws together with targeted education to modify the behaviour of both dogs and their owners to avoid nuisance situations.
