The Hastings District Council are also responsible to retrieve, impound and dispose of trespassing or wandering stock within the district.

Council operates and maintains a facility for the impoundment of stock in accordance with the Impounding Act 1955.

For trespassing or wandering stock call the Animal Control section at the Council on 06 878 0500. Call any time, day or night - there are always Animal Control Officers on duty.

Note: If stock are on a State Highway the call is transferred to a contractor who works for Transit New Zealand.

Where stock has not been released from the pound i.e. claimed by the owner, after notification in the local newspaper, stock will be sold at auction.

The actual costs of retrieving stock from any public place will also be charged in addition to these fees.
