Update: 19 July 2006 Environment court decision on appeal

The Hastings District Council has received an application for resource consent from Hawke's Bay Wind Farm Limited to develop, construct and operate a wind farm of up to 75 wind turbines and associated equipment on the Maungaharuru Range (in the vicinity of the Titiokura Summit, SH 5) for the generation of electricity.

The site concerned is located approximately 34km north west of Napier on 3200 hectares of privately owned and cleared farm land.

The application also includes the following:

  • The construction, use and maintenance of internal access tracks to up to 75 wind turbines;
  • The construction, use and maintenance of a 220kV substation and or switchyard including structures to connect to the existing TransPower 220kV lines;
  • The disturbance of land associated with the construction of the internal access tracks, placement of fill, underground cabling and turbine foundations;
  • The potential disturbance of indigenous vegetation associated with the construction of the internal access tracks, turbine foundations, underground cabling and placement of fill;
  • The erection, operation and maintenance of an Operations and Maintenance Building;
  • The extension of the existing consent number RMA20050066 for an 80m mast for a period to match the term of the application;
  • The construction, operation and maintenance of a six vehicle car parks on Waitara Road.
