Hastings District Council has a number of large, exciting and
challenging engineering projects either underway or in the planning
stages: landfill development and construction; sewer treatment
plant; sports facilities; subdivision developments; land drainage
schemes; extension of water, storm-water and waste-water networks.
Strong growth in the district has put pressure on existing infrastructure
and Hastings District Council is currently in a development and
construction period to accommodate this need.
The Council has a large pool of engineering knowledge and skill,
and experience shows this is best utilised by working together
and assisting each other with key project work. Junior staff
benefit from an environment which encourages learning, and through
mentoring and a diverse range of work they gain experience in a
broad range of engineering disciplines.
Decision making in the engineering team involves input from a
number of staff members. Engineering staff often advise council
decision-makers or participate in the decision-making process themselves.
Many Hastings District Council engineering staff hold senior national
positions with professional organisations. Hastings District
Council encourages and supports staff participation is such groups.
