New Zealanders don’t just travel.  They explore; they investigate; they participate; and they cope, no matter what.  If they aren’t working they are climbing, tramping, paddling or biking.
If it’s halfway accessible, there will be a New Zealander there.

Stroll, browse, relax and enjoy; boutiques, cafes, speciality and antique shops are clustered in villages dotted around Hastings.  Across the plains surrounding these villages, vineyards welcome visitors and locals: wine tastings, a bite to eat, or a long and leisurely lunch.  Weekends are spent eating alfresco, hunting for a bargain, enjoying the perfect cup of coffee.

Tucked into every corner of Hastings is an art gallery or craft workshop, all set along the popular Art Trail, each open for browsing, buying or a chat with the artist.  In the evening, it’s bright lights and curtain up at the Hawke’s Bay Opera House, the cultural heart of Hastings.

If you like your fun action-packed: the ranges are made for mountain-biking and hiking; the rivers, for kayaking and fishing; nearby beaches invite divers, surfers, land yachts; and, it’s only a couple of hours to the snow.
