The elected representatives are responsible for governance (policy setting), and employ the Chief Executive whose key role is management and implementation. The Chief Executive advises Councillors on matters of policy and the elected Council decides which policies to adopt by vote. It is then up to the Chief Executive and his staff to ensure any policy adopted by the Council is implemented correctly.
The Hastings District Council may only undertake those activities which are permitted by central government under the Local Government Act 2002.
