Rubbish is collected from kerbsides, public bins and refuse transfer stations, then taken to the landfill. The more we reuse and recycle, the longer our landfill will last.

Omarunui Landfill

The Hastings District and Napier City councils operate the Omarunui Landfill, situated at Omarunui Rd.

The landfill is only open to commercial operators/contractors with a Waste Disposal Licence Monday to Saturday 8am - 4.30pm - it's not open to the public.

Refuse Transfer Stations

A refuse transfer station (RTS) is a place where the public, including businesses and industries, can dispose of their waste. They are a station where refuse is stored prior to its transfer from the city to the rural landfill.

The Hastings district has two RTSs; Blackbridge on the way to Haumoana, and Henderson Road in Flaxmere.
