Growing Clive

Clive is situated on State Highway 2 between Napier and Hastings (see map). The township has a small commercial centre, but Clive is considered a dormitory suburb, with most residents working in Hastings, Napier or elsewhere on the Heretaunga Plains.

The Hastings Urban Development Strategy identified certain areas around the Clive Township that could be future urban expansion areas. The Council commissioned Opus Consultants to further investigate these areas in terms of their suitability for residential subdivision.

As a result of this study (Clive Urban Development Strategy 2002-2026 - see below), areas down Ferry Road were identified as suitable for rezoning to General Residential.

The landowners of 62 and 74 Ferry Road applied to Council to have these sites rezoned. These private plan changes where notified, submissions were received and a hearing (go to the 16 October 2003 Ferry Road Hearings Committee Meeting) was held to decide whether these sites should be rezoned.

As at February 2004, this rezoning was declared operative and since then, the properties have been subdivided and housing is currently going up.
