Ward boundary and Community Board review 2006

All Councils were required to review their structure, and the existence and structure of community boards in 2006.

On 28 March 2007 the Local Government Commission released its decisions on representation arrangements for the 2007 elections for the Hastings District Council and Hastings District Rural Community Board:

Hastings District Council

The Council will retain a ward system electing the mayor (at large) and 14 councillors (one less than at present). The councillors will be elected as follows:

Hastings Ward 6 councillors
Havelock North Ward 2 councillors
Flaxmere Ward 2 councillors
Heretaunga Ward 2 councillors
Mohaka Ward 1 councillor
Kahuranaki Ward 1 councillor

Hastings Ward

The boundaries of this ward are unchanged.

Havelock North Ward

The boundaries of this ward have been enlarged to include areas around Breadalbane Avenue, Margaret Avenue, Selwyn Road, Rochfort Road, Kopanga Road, Hikanui Drive and Hikanui Place.

Flaxmere Ward

The boundaries of this ward are unchanged.

Heretaunga Ward

This ward comprises the present Clive and Heretaunga Wards with the addition of areas around School Road, Lane Road and Endsleigh Drive.

Mohaka Ward

This ward comprises the present Tutira and Kaweka Wards.

Kahuranaki Ward

This ward comprises the present Maraekakaho and Poukawa Wards minus the areas being transferred from the Poukawa Ward to the Havelock North Ward and the Heretaunga Ward.

Hastings District Rural Community Board

The Rural Community Board continues with 4 “subdivisions” electing one member each. These are the existing Tutira, Kaweka, Maraekakaho and Poukawa Wards with the boundary adjustments from Poukawa Ward noted above, plus one small area being transferred to the Maraekakaho Subdivision from Poukawa and a boundary adjustment between Kaweka (reduced) and Tutira (enlarged). The councillors for the Mohaka and Kahuranaki Wards will also be members of the Rural Community Board.
