Wastewater resource consent consultation
REGISTER YOUR INTEREST
Hasting District Council’s wastewater discharge consent expires in March 2014.
We are now embarking on a programme of consultation and investigation to obtain a new consent for our Clive wastewater treatment plant. The treatment plant receives wastewater from the domestic and non-separable treated system and the industrial trade waste system.
The wastewater treatment plant has recently undergone an extensive upgrade with the construction of a Biological Trickling Filter (BTF) system which treats the domestic wastewater. This system has now been operating for two years, and is delivering a cost-effective and significantly higher standard of treatment than previously.
Fundamental to the success of the treatment upgrade project was the commitment of key stakeholders to work together to achieve a cost-effective, environmentally friendly and culturally acceptable outcome. Continuing in this spirit of partnership we would like to work with all interested parties to achieve the new consent.
Over the coming months we are planning a number of activities to better inform our community about the consent process, update them on progress, and to provide opportunities for input (particularly to ascertain their views on whether the BTF treatment process achieves complete removal of human waste (kuparu) from the wastewater discharge).
We encourage all interested parties register their interest.
