Council to resume full kerbside recycling collection service

Kerbside Recycling Number 5s 2022

Kerbside recycling collection will resume from Monday, 27 February.

Hasting District Council will resume kerbside recycling services next week.

From Monday, February 27, Hastings residents can go back to presenting glass, plastics and cans along with paper and cardboard on their usual recycling day.

HDC contractors faced a number of challenges in getting the service restored to residents, including damage to their processing site and roading issues limiting the ability to collect and transport recycling to processors both in Hastings and outside the region.

Residents are asked to place their waste kerbside by 7am on their usual recycling date.

HDC also asks that residents be aware kerbside collections may still be impacted by traffic delays and staffing limitations due to Cyclone Gabrielle.

Tips for getting your recycling out as the service returns to normal:

  • Make sure your recycling is separated, plastic and cans together, glass jars and bottles by themselves, paper and cardboard together.
  • Crates placed kerbside by 7am and left out all day to allow time for the teams to get around all the streets.
  • Place crates as closed the kerbside a possible, so the driver can see them and not up against your fence line or next to your letterbox.
  • Check that your recycling is clean and crates are not overfilled. Refer to the top tips on the website for making the most of the space you have.
  • Please don’t overfill your crates and keep what can’t fit inside the council crates until the following week or ask your neighbour if they have some space that you could use.
  • You can use any crate for any type of recycling– for example, you may choose to not use a crate for glass so you can put out two crates of plastics and cans.
  • If you have large stores of recycling, you can ‘drip feed’ these out over the coming weeks or you can choose to take overflows of recycling to Henderson Road Transfer Station at no charge.
